The Winnipeg Blues continued their great start to the season with their third win in a row, dropping the defending MJHL and Anavet Cup Champion Portage Terriers 6-3 at the MTS Ice Plex.
Derek Gingera notched a pair of goals in the first period, while Jared Morris and Jake Heisinger each lit the lamp as the Blues took a 4-1 lead after the opening frame.
The two teams exchanged goals in the 2nd, with Jeremy Olynyk for the Blues and Shaq Merasty with his 2nd of the game, finding the back of the net, giving the Blues a 5-2 lead going into the third.
The Terriers would get within two on a goal from Brent Wold, but that's as close as they would come as Dylan Kelly put home his 5th of the season into an empty net, giving the Blues a 6-3 win and improving their record to 3-0 to start the 2011/12 campaign.
Blues netminder Isiah Plett picked up his first win of the season, stopping 29 of the 32 shots fired his way.
Terriers Matt Courvrette falls to 0-1 on the year.
Winnipeg had 4 different players with a two point game, and five different players scored, which has been the big story on the season so far. Every line is contributing.
They'll have to be more disciplined tonight after having the penalty gate opened up 13 times last night in their win, as they get set for a big Addison Division match up against the Winkler Flyers.
The Flyers are also undefeated so far this season, winning their first two games.
Puck drop is set for 7:30.
