Blues Lose First of Season in Winkler

The Winnipeg Blues were on the wrong end of the final score for the first time this season after being dropped by the Winkler Flyers 4-1.

The Blues came out flying in the first period, but Flyers netminder Corey Koop was the story, stopping all 19 shots he faced in the first period.  Winkler was the only team to light the lamp in the opening frame as Kyle Manlow put the puck behind Blues tender Isiah Plett, giving the Flyers a 1-0 lead after one.

In the second, Jake Heisinger got the Blues on the scoreboard, but Winkler tallied with a pair of their own, one by Ben Reinbolt, the other by Brock Vanderveen, and Winkler would head to the third period with a 3-1 lead.

The Blues would throw another 12 shots at Koop, but he slammed the door shut for Winkler, and Vanderveen would add one more on the night, and the Flyers skated away with a 4-1 win.

Next action for the Blues is this coming Tuesday night when they'll host the Selkirk Steelers.   Puck Drop is set for 7:30 at the Ice Plex.
