The Winnipeg Blues had what was one of their best Home Openers in recent years this past Friday, September 17th.
Althought the Blues lost in a shoot out to their division rivals the Selkirk Steelers (to see the game summary click here) http://www.mjhlhockey.ca/gamesummary.aspx?game_id=2081 , the over one thousand fans that packed the new Blues home at the MTS Ice Plex saw a fantastic hockey game, and the atmosphere inside the building was electric. Selkirk may have won the game, but everyone in attendance was buzzing about the great hockey, the new facility, and the excitement of starting a brand new MJHL season.
There was also a VIP reception at the end of the night, which included, players parents, Blues Directors, Corporate Sponsors, and various dignitaries including Mark Chipman, who dropped the puck for the ceremonial opening face off. It was a very fitting way to kick off not only a new season for the Winnipeg Blues, but a whole new era in their new home at the Ice Plex.
Next home action for the Blues (0-0-1-1) is this Tuesday, September 21st when they'll face the Winkler Flyers. Puck drop is set for 7:30.
