Kings Top Blues

The Dauphin Kings continued their strong play, winning their 10th in 11 games as they downed the Winnipeg Blues 6-4 at the MTS Ice Plex.

The first period saw each team trade chances until Justin Minoletti picked up a loose puck at center, skated over the Kings line, and fired a shot past Dauphin Netminder Ryan Bembridge giving the Blues a 1-0 lead.

It would stay that way until late in the period when the Kings Bryn Chyzyk would tie things up, sending the teams to their dressing rooms tied at 1.

In the second, Kings captain Shane Luke would get his first of two on the night, as he took a great feed from Chyzyk at the side of the net with the Blues down 2 men, and put the puck behind a helpless Charlie Pogue who had no chance, giving the Kings the lead.

Jeff Borse would tie things up for Winnipeg as he picked up a rebound in front of the Kings net and slipped home his 10th of the year, once again notting things up.

Josh Daley and Luke would each score and give Dauphin a 4-2 lead midway through the 2nd, but the Blues kept battling and Evan Gravenor was rewarded for going to the front of the net, as he found a loose puck and put it in the cage, getting the Blues within one.

Before the period was out Winnipeg would tie things up on a great three way passing play which was finished off by Dylan Kelly, and the two teams would head to the third tied at 4.

In the third, the Blues were called for three penalties in the first 2:18 seconds, and killed them all off, keeping things locked.

Then with just under 5 minutes to play, a scramble ensued in front of the Blues net, and Kings Jesse Sinatynski picked up a loose puck and put a perfect shot in the top corner, giving Dauphin a 5-4 lead.

Kyle Johnson added an empty net goal, and the Kings took home a 6-4 win.

Dauphin finished 3-9 on the powerplay, while the Blues were 0-6.

It wasn't the best officiated game i have seen this year that's for sure.

It's now time to hit the road for the Blues, who will play their next 10 games away from the MTS Ice Plex, beginning on Tuesday night in Portage where they'll face the Terriers.

I'd also like to thank Dauphin Kings play by play man Kevin Jeffrey for letting me come and do color with him.  It was a great time, he's great at calling the games, and i look forward to doing that again.
