Up And Down Weekend For The Blues

It was an up and down weekend for the Winnipeg Blues.

On Saturday night, the Blues headed to Waywayseecappo to face the Wolverines, and put together a great effort in a 7-4 win.

Seven different goal scorers found the back of the net for Winnipeg in the win.  Jeff Borse, Dustin Bruyere, Evan Gravenor, Jason Gardiner, Connor Cleverley, Jake Heisinger, and Dylan Kelly all got on the scoresheet.

Dustin Pearson also had a strong game with 3 helpers, and Paul Bonar added a pair of assists as well.

With the win the Blues also snapped out of a 6 game losing streak, as they headed back to the MTS Ice Plex for a tilt with Steinbach on Sunday night.

But again, another night, another hot goalie stumped the Blues.

Winnipeg have been getting a lot of shots on net in recent games, but have ran into some hot netminders.  And Sunday night it was Addison Herosian and the Steinbach Pistons turn to slam the door shut.

Herosian stopped 51 of the 54 shots the Blues fired at him, leading the Pistons to a 6-3 win.

The Blues opened the scoring in the first period, with Evan Gravenor netting his 12th of the year.

Steinbach would tie it midway through the period as the teams went to the rooms tied at 1.

Both clubs would exchange second period goals, with Ben Morgan putting home his 4th for Winnipeg, and Tanner Harms notching his 8th.

In the third the Pistons special teams would blow the game wide open, as they potted a pair of powerplay goals and a shorthanded marker plus one even strength tally in a 4 goal third period.

Adam Stoykewych scored the lone goal for the Blues in the third, who outshot the Pistons 54-35 on the night, and once again came up short, falling to Steinbach 6-3.

So the Blues record now sits at 6-13-2-4 on the year, 5th in the Addison, two points ahead of the Pistons.

Next action for the Blues is Tuesday night when they hop on the bus and head to Neepawa to face the 14-5-0-2 Natives.

The Blues return to home ice on Thursday night, when the Selkirk Steelers come to the Ice Plex.
