Blues Net Five in First Period En Route To Win

The Blues came out firing right from the start last night at the MTS Ice Plex, notching five goals in the first period en route to a 7-3 win over the Winnipeg Saints.

Brett Harvie, Dylan Kelly, Brett Stovin, Jake Heisinger and Jeff Borse all lit the lamp in the opening frame, while Brett Mencik and Shane Gingera answered for the Saints.

In the second Borse added his second of the game, and team leading 20th of the season, and Dustin Pearson put home his 6th of the season, giving the Blues a commanding 7-2 lead after the first two periods.

In the third the Saints would add one thanks to Kyle Bodnaruk, but that would be the end of the scoring as the Blues would skate away with a 7-3 win.

Brett Martyniuk picked up the win for the Blues, making 18 saves in the game while Saints netminder Brent Wolfe stopped 31 of 38 shots he faced.

The Blues are off for a couple days before taking on the Winkler Flyers at the MTS Ice Plex this Friday night.

Puck drop is set for 7:30.
