Blues Head Into 2011 With A Win

Happy New Year to one and all.

The MJHL returned from their christmas break this past Thursday night, with the Blues and Saints taking to the ice in St. Adolphe.

With the World Under 17 Championships taking place at the MTS Ice Plex, the Blues are in the midst of a 10 game road swing, and it didn't get off to a great start before the break.

Winnipeg lost their first four road games and 6 straight overall heading into the break and were looking to come back with a win against the Saints on Thursday night.

And they had them on the ropes, leading 4-2 after two periods, but in the third the Saints came out flying and potted three, giving them a 6-5 win.

The Saints continued their dominance of the Blues this season, having gone 5-0-0-0 over the Blues so far.

Winnipeg didn't have time to worry about the loss because they'd be back on the ice about 18 hours later, with an New Years Eve afternoon tilt in Selkirk against the Steelers.

And in front of an announced crowd of just under a thousand at the Selkirk Rec Center, the Blues spoiled Selkirks New Years party, dropping the Steelers 6-4, and in doing so snapping a 7 game losing skid.

Dylan Kelly had a pair, with Dustin Pearson, Austin Lauder, Ben Sveinson, and Jeff Borse all collecting singles in the win.

Jake Heisinger added three helpers as well for the Blues who's record now sits at 10-22-3-5 as we enter 2011.

Winnipeg has a few days off now before heading to Winkler on Tuesday night to face the Flyers in Game seven of the ten game road swing.

The next home action for the Blues isn't until the middle of the month when they'll welcome the Steinbach Pistons on January 14th.
